Additional Class of 2024 Standouts

7/14 CGC Staff

We solidified our final top-10 rankings of the class of 2024 on signing day in November, looking at their junior and amateur competitive results from the past few years. While those standout golfers continue to be in the top tier of their class, several 2024 golfers have made improvements in their game and have racked up solid finishes since they signed with their respective teams. We’d like to recognize two 2024 graduates who have logged stellar results in recent months.

Jackson Herrington, a home-grown Tennessee signee, has hung around in the top fifty in his class for several years, with solid results but without breakthrough performances. His run of top-five finishes began in November with 3rd place at the Elite Invitational, an event that is attracting a better field each year. The tournaments that put Herrington on the map were the Jones Cup Junior Invitational in December, placing 3rd in a stellar field of junior golfers, and the Dustin Johnson World Junior, in which he finished 2nd in another loaded field. This spring, he has carded top-15 finishes in amateur events the Sunnehanna and Azalea Invitationals, showing that his game is ready to compete with current collegiate players. He paired with Blades Brown for the second year in a row in a solid run in the US Amateur Four-Ball. Staying local in his home state this summer, Herrington’s biggest accomplishment was winning the Tennessee State Open, fresh off a 3rd place result at the Tennessee Junior Amateur. The Vols are getting a good one in the fall, and he should contend for lineups this season.

Another 2024 standout is Princeton-bound Eric Yun of California, another player who was consistently in the top-50 in his class for several years. Yun began hitting his stride in tournaments in August at the AJGA Jack Burke Invitational, in which he finished 4th, and he followed that performance with a 5th place result at the AJGA Ping Invitational. This spring, he made solid placements in AJGA Invitationals a habit, finishing 6th at the Team Taylormade, 2nd at the Boys Simplify, and reaching the quarterfinals at the RLX Ralph Lauren Junior Classics. It will be interesting to watch Yun balance golf academics this season at Princeton, as he should be considered a lineup lock when he heads to New Jersey.
